Announcing Capital Pride 2020: Celebrate, Protest, Advocate! When COVID-19 forced us to cancel our annual in-person Pride celebration in August, we immediately began work on a virtual event for the LGBTQ+ community in the central Willamette valley. We hope you’ll join us on October 11 from 9AM to 11AM for a morning of music, drag, art, storytelling, and more. #CapitalPride
Proudly sponsored by Allied Video Productions.
A Virtual LGBTQ+ Community Event
Salem Capital Pride is excited to announce our first ever virtual Pride! Our theme is “Celebrate, Protest, Advocate.” For us, these actions show us why Pride matters. In the midst of a global pandemic, movements for racial justice, and economic crisis, Pride is more important today than ever.
This year, we invite you to join us for a virtual Pride event, where we will:
• Celebrate: For many, Pride is a joyous time for exuberant expressions of love, freedom, and acceptance. Pride is a time to express our true selves and identities.
• Protest: The first Pride started as a protest. This moment calls on us to yet again stand up against the injustices that have hurt our communities, especially communities of color. We believe that Black Lives Matter and will always stand in solidarity with our Black and Brown siblings.
• Advocate: Let’s challenge each other to do more to lift up the LGBTQ+ community and stand in solidarity with our BIPOC family, whether through contributions of time, treasure, or talent. We can all do more.
We invite you to join us by submitting a video expressing what LGBTQ+ pride means to you. We hope that our theme of “Celebrate, Protest, Advocate” will serve as a guide when you are considering your submission. Stories, poems, art, songs, drag performances and more are all welcome.

Salem Capitol Pride believes social justice, equity, and human rights extend beyond LGBTQ+ causes. Our organization stands with our siblings of color in demanding change to end systemic racism and white supremacy in our nation. As we begin the celebration of Pride Month, we honor the Black and Brown heroes who stood up against brutality and fought for LGBTQ+ rights at the Stonewall Inn. All of us owe so much of our progress to these brave individuals who stood up in the face of injustice. We encourage you to take time to learn the full history of Pride and where it all began. There will be no equity or justice until we all thrive together, regardless of our race or identity. We call upon our community to stand in support of equity, human rights, social justice, and the end of structural racism and white supremacy. Pride Month celebrates the progress of the LGBTQ+ community and brings awareness to others; we are here, and we are proud. Together, let’s focus our effort to ensure that the change we are fighting for today will lead to even greater progress for our Black and Brown siblings. Finally, we reaffirm that Black Lives Matter, now and always. #PrideMonth #DemandChange
