We have a special speaker coming from Montana, Aunty Steven. 🌟 Announcing the ANTSS Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient: Steven Barrios aka Aunty Steven! 🌟 We are incredibly honored to have Steven Barrios, affectionately known as Aunty Steven, with the ANTSS Lifetime Achievement Award join us to speak and celebrate Indigenous People. As a founder of the Montana Two Spirit Society and a proud tribal citizen of the Blackfeet Nation, Steven has dedicated over 20 years to educating and raising awareness about Two-Spirit culture, a heritage nearly lost due to colonization. Steven’s tireless efforts have not only educated Native and non-Native communities about Two-Spirit identity but also highlighted the impact of HIV infection on Native communities. His personal journey in HIV prevention and Two-Spirit education began in response to the devastating loss of friends at a time when hope and treatments were scarce. Since 1997, Steven has been instrumental in planning and coordinating the annual Montana Two Spirit Gathering, growing it from a small group to one of the largest gatherings in the Pacific Northwest, attracting 50-70 Native Two-Spirits each year. His work includes providing confidential HIV testing on his reservation, a vital service for Native Two-Spirit men who face confidentiality issues, homophobia, and stigma elsewhere. Steven’s commitment extends beyond his local community. He serves on the Montana Community Planning Group and the Montana Gay Men’s Task Force and has contributed to the National Native American AIDS Prevention Center’s Harm Reduction Board, National Native American CPG, and Pride Foundation’s Racial Equity Initiative. His presentations on Two-Spirit history have resonated across the Pacific Northwest and in states such as Oklahoma, Arizona, and New Mexico. The October Nature walk is going to be a visit to a Harvest Festival! We will be visiting E.Z. Orchards Farm Market We will be meeting on Sunday, October 13th at 10am at E.Z. Orchards Farm Market. E.Z. Orchards’ Harvest Festival has a lot of activities available during their Harvest Festival. Check out the details at their website. There is a $12/person admission fee for this event. We want our community programs to be as accessible as possible, so for those that are unable to pay for their own admission, Pride is offering a limited number of fee waivers. Waivers will be prioritized based on sign up time. Pets are not allowed at E.Z. Orchards, so you’ll have to leave your furry friends at home for this one. Please keep an eye on the weather and come prepared. We will send weather information out to people who sign up as we get closer to the event.
